Roddick Wins In Davis Cup, Next Plays Sunday, USA 1-1
02.07.07 PRAGUE -- American Andy Roddick defeated Ivo Minar of the Czech Republic 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to give the USA an early lead in the first round World Group series before James Blake lost his singles match. In Roddick's match one of his serves hit the Czech President in the chest who was sitting courtside. Saturday is doubles day. Sunday is reverse singles and Roddick is taking on 6 foot 5 inches tall Tomas Berdych who beat Blake Friday. Head to head Berdych leads Roddick 1-0 winning last year in Spain on hardcourts 7-6(9-7), 6-3. This will be a very difficult match for Andy as Berdych is tough to play and the match will be on clay, which is one of Andy's worst surfaces.

Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych, Lukas Dlouhy, Ivo Minar and Pavel Vizner will face Andy Roddick, James Blake and the Bryan brothers of the U.S. team between February. 9th-11th.

Andy Roddick Loses Serve Early, Never Recovers
01.25.07 MELBOURNE -- Early this morning USA in time in the semifinals, Andy Roddick went down an early service break doing the right thing but with not the best execution and lost quickly to world number one Roger Federer 6-4, 6-0, 6-2. Roddick went to the net several times to try to pressure Federer but was not able to make enough volleys to string together enough points to hold serve and fell behind in set one. After that it was pretty much a steamroll for Federer. Simply amazing how he can win sets 6-0 against the best players in the world.

The Good: Andy Beat Fish, The Bad: Plays Federer Next
01.23.07 MELBOURNE -- Monday night USA in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, Andy Roddick made quick work of Mardy Fish 6-2, 6-2, 6-2. The Roddick match was actually shorter than the previous match where Serena Williams won in three sets. And wouldn't you know it: world number one Roger Federer made it to another semifinal, and Roddick has to play him. Andy is 1-12 versus Federer, but the glimmer of good news is Andy was able to "beat" Federer in a non-ATP Tour exhibition last week which will hopefully give Andy some confidence in the semifinals.

01.21.07 MELBOURNE -- Monday night USA time Andy Roddick takes on close friend, former roommate and fellow American Mardy Fish in the quarterfinals in what should be a match full of fireworks. Head to head Andy leads Mardy 4-1 last winning at Memphis 2006 6-3, 6-7(5-7), 7-6(7-2). I was at that match in Memphis and there was not much at all between the two players gamewise. The match could have gone either way. Fish hit some groundstrokes harder than Andy, but Roddick's serve seemed to have been the difference as it was more consistent and hit with more power than Mardy's.
